Energy audit at DMT ENCOS: increasing efficiency through systematic analysis
An energy audit is a structured process for evaluating the energy efficiency of technical processes and systems. The aim is to develop concrete ideas for improving energy efficiency and deliver sustainable optimisation proposals. DMT ENCOS offers comprehensive support in carrying out energy audits, including a cost-benefit analysis and a detailed final report.
Energy audit process
- Initial contact: Definition of the requirements and expectations of the energy audit. The objectives of the audit and the specific needs of your company are determined.
- Determination of the scope and system boundaries: Identification of the sites or facilities to be analysed in detail. This includes defining the areas that will be included in the audit.
- Kick-off meeting: Ensuring a standardised level of information within the company. This meeting serves to inform all those involved about the process and objectives of the audit.
- Data collection: Collection of data on individual or all energy flows throughout the company. This data forms the basis for analysing and evaluating energy efficiency.
- Macro or micro analysis: Carrying out a detailed assessment of energy efficiency. Depending on requirements, a comprehensive analysis of the entire company or a targeted analysis of specific processes can be carried out.
- Final report: Documentation of the results and recommendations. The report contains a detailed analysis of energy efficiency and specific suggestions for optimisation.
Obligation to carry out an energy audit in accordance with EDL-G
The Energy Services Act (EDL-G), which implements the European Energy Efficiency Directive 2012/27/EU, makes recurring energy audits mandatory for all companies that do not fall under the definition of SMEs in accordance with EU Directive 2003/361/EC. This applies to companies with more than 250 employees or an annual turnover of more than 50 million euros and an annual balance sheet total of at least 43 million euros. Company links must also be taken into account, which means that many seemingly small and medium-sized companies are also subject to the obligation.
Advantages of an energy audit
An energy audit offers numerous benefits, including:
- Tax relief: Fulfilment of the requirements under Section 10 of the Electricity Tax Act (Peak Equalisation Efficiency System Ordinance) and therefore access to tax relief.
- Energy cost reduction: Systematic reduction of energy costs through targeted optimisation measures.
- Compliance: fulfilment of the legal requirements for non-SMEs in accordance with EDL-G.
