Mechanical engineering at DMT ENCOS: specialist expertise and integration with process engineering

Machine engineering is divided into specific specialist areas of expertise, which are closely linked to process engineering at DMT ENCOS in organisational terms. This close cooperation enables a holistic approach to the planning and implementation of machines and systems.

Mechanical engineering for rotating equipment

Detailed engineering for rotating equipment sets the course for the entire life cycle of the planned machines and systems. Our engineers focus on key criteria such as:

  • Durable, resistant materials: Selection of materials that can withstand the demands of the application and ensure a long service life.
  • Rugged construction: Development of constructions that reliably withstand loads and operating conditions.
  • Ease of maintenance: Designing machines that are easy to maintain to minimise downtime.
  • Energy efficiency: Optimisation of machines for low energy consumption.
  • API-compliant barrier oil systems: Implementation of systems that comply with API standards.
  • ATEX compliance: Ensuring compliance with ATEX directives for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.
  • Minimised noise development: Reduction of noise development for more pleasant operation.

The process-related flexibility of machines and systems is decisively influenced by the definition and selection of control options. Close coordination with the process engineering, electrical engineering and I&C (measurement and control technology) disciplines at DMT ENCOS is of great importance here.

Mechanical engineering for static equipment

In addition to its expertise in the field of chemical and thermal process engineering, DMT ENCOS also covers the technical requirements in mechanical engineering for static equipment. Based on the process engineering requirements, the elements such as material selection, coating system and surface quality are determined taking into account customer-specific design guidelines.

Detailed specifications

DMT ENCOS creates detailed specifications in the form of design drawings for process engineering equipment, including:

  • Columns: Absorption, stripper, distillation and dividing wall columns.
  • Reactors: Tubular, fixed-bed and stirred-tank reactors.
  • Heat exchangers: Shell-and-tube and double-tube heat exchangers.
  • Tanks: Phase separation, storage, flash and slop tanks.
  • Safety systems: Separation and immersion tanks for safety and draining systems (blow-down system).

Typical design adaptations of all other internal components are considered and applied, including special processes for process trays, structured packings, bulk dryers, demisters, droplet separator packages, catalyst beds and liquid and vapour inlet systems.

Note

DMT ENCOS does not act as an equipment manufacturer and therefore does not produce manufacturing drawings for equipment. This makes the mechanical engineering steps in the procurement phase all the more important, including the checking, commenting and approval of production drawings and the coordination of tests by the Assembly Planning, Piping Engineering, Process Engineering and I&C departments.
